Well worth a listen is G&D author Julia Smith’s podcast Why it’s important to focus on gender during an outbreak, on The Conversation website.
Julia’s podcast is based on her article Overcoming the ‘tyranny of the urgent’: integrating gender into disease outbreak preparedness and response, published in our Humanitarian Action and Crisis Response issue (July 2019). In the article, Julia highlights the silence that exists around gender and disease outbreaks, and the article includes a case study of an NGO response to the 2014 Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone.
