The unique potential for education to open the learner’s eyes and inspire her to action has led to women and girls being denied education throughout history, and across the globe. This issue of of G&D focuses in the main on girls’ formal education, charting progress on increasing access to education, and exploring the challenges that remain. Writers explore visions of empowering education, and share analytical case studies of work aiming both to increase access to education, and improve its quality, relevance and usefulness to girls and women.
